Why You Need To Take Care of Yourself as a Homemaker

You simply cannot run a home, doing all (or most) of the cooking, and cleaning, and laundry, and kissing of boo-boo's, and tucking in, and picking up, and home maintenance,  and driving, and schedule keeper and all of things that come with being a homemaker... with out having filled yourself up first.  Especially if you also hold the title of mom.

You cannot give, from what you do not have.

You cannot help others, when you are in dire need of help yourself.

Give to your family from your overflow.

Fill yourself up, so that you can fully and freely give to your family.

It really makes sense.  It isn't being selfish to take care of yourself.  I'm going to say that again, because I want to make sure it really sinks it.  (Dramatic pause for effect) Taking care of yourself, isn't selfish.  As homemakers, we spend so much time taking care of the home and others, all too often we find that we are neglecting ourselves, that we have no time for us, and that we can no longer even remember what we do for fun.

As a person who tries to "go, go, go" all of the time, I have had to learn that many times, it is better to take a step back, and spend sometime for myself, and fill my cup, rather than "go, go, go" myself into exhaustion or possibly into a complete meltdown mode and burnt out.

Homemakers, you are no good to anyone, especially your family if you are burnout.

When you are burnt out, you can't focus, you snap at others, your attitude is sucky, and you tend to hurt those closest to you.

Recently I read Saying Goodbye to Survival Mode:

I highly recommend the book, as it has helped me focus and change things in my life so that I don't go down the burn out road.

Honestly, I didn't even realize how burnt out I was getting.  I had no clue that I was really pushing myself that hard.  Say Goodbye to Survival Mode really helped me see that I needed to make some changes in my life.

Are you reaching burn out?

Come back tomorrow, when I share share some ways that I have started to take care of myself as a homemaker/mom to avoid burn out that you can do too!
